On February 27, 2010, our son, Eli, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 2. Our lives were changed overnight as Eli began the standard daily T1D regimen of multiple finger pricks and insulin injections.
He is a patient of Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth, TX, and through them we were introduced to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Through JDRF we learned about the JDRF One Walk (formerly the Walk to Cure Diabetes), and from the first year of Eli’s diagnosis we have participated in the Fort Worth chapter’s walk. Cari created our walk team and aptly named it Eli’s Encouragers, to represent the many family and friends that love Eli and support him through his diagnosis. Eli’s encouragers have raised over $35,000 and have had around 350 walkers in the five years of walks!
The next walk is on October 17, 2015 at Panther Island Pavilion in Fort Worth, TX. We’d love for you to join us! To sign up and/or donate go here. We hope to see you there and for you to be one of Eli’s Encouragers!
